Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening ~ Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sounds the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

This is a simple, yet powerful poem which touched my heart when I was young. The speaker stops by the beautiful woods on a snowy evening. He or she is attracted by the beauty of the woods and the night. But soon realizes the pull towards the obligations and responsibilities that needs to be fulfilled and the long distance that has to be travelled before he or she can rest in life.

Taare Zameen Par

Recently, I watched Taare Zameen Par, the directorial venture of Aamir Khan who is my favorite actor. Incidentally, Aamir Khan also produced the movie and played the lead role of Ram Shankar Nikhumb, a teacher who helps a dyslexic child Ishaan Awasthi to create his wonderful world of imagination and bring out his innate art of painting. In the process, he helps out Ishaan to overcome his learning and reading problem in a unique way.

The movie is a lesson to every parent and teacher, who thinks academics is everything. One has to understand the fact that every child is different and has his or her own way of learning. The pace at which one learns things varies. Parents have to encourage their kids to dream and imagine. The movie also points out to the fact that every dyslexic child has the right to study in a regular school. Every parent and teacher has to take a cue from Nikhumb as to how to deal with dyslexic children or for that matter any child who has trouble in academics. A dyslexic child is like any other innocent child who has his own world of dreams and imagination and when properly nurtured, you might see an Albert Einstein, a Thomas Alva Edison, a Walt Disney (the list goes on) who were all dyslexic to born with.

When ?? The million dollar question

So when is it going to happen !! When will India win against Australia in Australia. This is a million dollar question. Is it ever going to happen? Right now I cannot see how we are going to win first test considering the fact that we have two more days on dodgy pitch.

Let's just hope that we can pull ourselves from the kind of mess we are in right now and win the series !!

Benazi Bhutto Assassinated !!

Benazir Bhutto, the second most influential woman in the world was assassinated on December 27, 2007. She narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in October as soon as she returned from London to Pakistan in order to contest in the 2008 elections scheduled two weeks from now. Her assassination has come as a shock to world community.

December 27, 2007 is a sad and unfortunate day not only in the history of the Pakistan but also to the entire world. She always stood by democracy and got killed for opposing the Musharaff regime. A Harvard graduate, and degree holder from Oxford, she was the first woman ever to serve a Muslim state. I strongly believed that she would have won easily in the 2008 elections restoring true democracy in Pakistan. Her re-election would also have ensured that there would be a check on the Pakistani nukes which could now fall into the wrong hands considering the unrest and political instability that they are facing today.

Coming to the elections itself, I believe it is just a formality. Musharaff is going to continue to be the "President" and who ever gets elected is going to be a puppet.

Miami !!

Been to miami for x-mas break....the weather was in the high 80's. It was one of the best experiences I had in recent times. We spent a lot of time in South beach. The boat ride which took us around the mansions of rich n famous was lot of fun. Night life in miami is by far the best......
